We are in the 21st century , which is famously called the jet or “computer age “.Advancement in technology has enabled us do amazing things like connect with people from all over the world without the hassle of traveling, sending a text /message to a family member or friend couldn’t have been made any easier .At the same time, the advancement in technology we’ve experienced comes with a downside . I’m going specifically for social media .

Now the advent of social media like instagram, YouTube, twitter ,tiktok WhatsApp etc has been a huge blessing the people in the 20th century would certainly appreciate not having to send a letter or messenger several kilometers to relay information and not having to miss out on the lives of loved ones who don’t live around. At the same time social media has enabled the window of comparison, Internet stalking , and obsession over strangers on the Internet that appear to have “perfect lives”. My topic of discussion would be influencers yeah you know those perfect and rich people that take perfect photos , go on vacations and have a lovely house/family ?. FACTS about mainstream tiktok and instagram influencers you must know :

  1. They dont show you every aspect of their lives , yes you heard that right , they dont show you when they are down or going through a hard time emotionally, they mostly only show the happy memories of them looking all put together .Don’t be convinced that they’re happy all the time , almost no one is .
  2. Don’t be surprised if the image an influencer portrays online is completely false .Just because they act nice in their videos doesn’t mean they’re nice people , just because they seem to pose in a “private jet” , doesn’t mean they earn more than you do . There are literally photo studios that look like private jets you could pay to take pictures in .And just because they appear to have “unique” or different features doesn’t mean they actually do an influencer can fake a lot of things I’ve seen someone literally lying about their height and getting clout off it .Remeber the model whi faked a condition of having eyes of two different colours , who was exposed and called out eventually?.Of course she did that because she knew she’d be seen as “unique” and many people blindly follow without questioning what they see and I’m pretty sure many would have rushed to her defence and called nay sayers ordinary “haters” .And I also discovered an influencer of colour on YouTube with blue eyes and no its not the amazing Cyndee Black , this is another woman who got an eye colour change ( which is risky by the way ) by Bright ocular but wants her die hard fans /followers to believe its natural and trust me they do , even when it’s kinda obvious that her eyes aren’t even natural, funny .When someone raises that fact they get shunned /hate or given a lecture about how people of colour can have blue eyes and Cyndee Black who has natural blue eyes gets thrown into the mix and I am like (you all might as well give up ).She knows having that rare feature would give her clout and money so she hid videos on her procedure which was on her profile before , she knows gullible die hard fans would fall for it so she capitalised on that , I mean who could really blame her .I am not gonna state the name of this influencer for obvious reasons .
  3. They aren’t always right .Yes, that might be surprising to some, but use a mind of your own , your favourite influencer might not always be right about every topic.Do your own research and make decisions from there.
  4. They don’t know you so they aren’t your bestie or friend , hell they probably don’t even actually"love you”, so don’t be convinced that you have some sort of parasicial relationship with them .Don’t go showing up to their houses unannounced, either. It’s kinda creepy .
  5. Your aesthetic/ healthy eating influencer might not even be organised/ eat healthy all the time .Don’t compare yourself and think there’s something wrong with you because your desk isn’t always arranged in an “aesthetically pleasing” way and don’t be upset about your fridge not being all “put together”, like your favourite influencer .
  6. If they wake up perfectly with a camera in their face then they’re probably lying ?.I mean most people have a weird “wake up” face let’s face it , your favourite influencer probably isn’t even an exception.
  7. They’re probably not as rich as they want you to think .The expensive cars or houses you see in their videos might just be borrowed or they might not have even finished paying for it ?.
